Lookie
December 24, 2009

Ok so Mike got me my Knit Picks interchangable needles for Christmas. Now the money I was saving up for them can go to yarn and it did. I bought 11 ball of Palette. 4 in Doe, 4 in Delta, and 3 in Bison. 3 balls of Wool of the Andes in Dune Twist, one skein of Shadow Kettle Dyed in Wine, 2 needles, a set of cable, and a set of Harmony tips. I love getting goodies. I already did my swatch for the Miss Michelle Jacket I'm going to make for my Winter OWL for the House Cup. I have a lot of stuff planned to make for myself Citron, Calorimetry, and the Winding River Cowl to name a few. I'm also doing a She-knits mystery knit along. It's going to be a busy month.

Small Changes, Big Headaches
December 9, 2009

Ok, so it's kinda the 8th still to me but it's 1:35 am so I'll call it the 9th. I just spent some time moving things around and making it easier for me to update the blog, thinking maybe if I do that I'll actually post more often. At the moment I'm also looking for a graphics wizard so I can spice the place up a bit.
So in a totally different direction, does every knitter have that one project they just can't seem to get to work right? Cause my blanket for Mike and I is just kicking my "big" (there's a story, read on) ass. After Winnie puking all over the original version, seen below:
Winnie and the Original Blanket
I decided to just get a third color in there since the yarn it's self was usable but the already knit part wasn't. So I bought a nice gray color and had decided on a slightly lacey, but not to girly or holey pattern. I start with my gray, do my 4 rows, change to my blue and about 3 rows into the blue (over 250+ stitches mind you) I notice something. I'm knitting a right side row, but the wrong side of the gray is facing me. I look at my directions, I check Ravelry and the source site for errata, nothing. Well frog that idea! So the next route I try to go is a mitered squares blanket, which I like in theory but doing the pickups on a garter ridge just isn't working out for me, and I came to the conclusion I'll have a billion ends to weave in when I'm done, NOPE not going to happen. So my third and hopefully final plan is to do a Log Cabin blanket, like in Mason-Dixon Knitter, just modifying it to be 3 colors instead of 4. I'll let you know what happens.
So about the big ass thing, well I was on register at work for a little bit on Monday. When I was finished I asked the guy who was checking out at the line behind me if he could just back up his carriage for me so I could get out. He does, but not far enough for me to squeeze through, so I say "Just a little more, I can't fit". He comes back at me with "Well you just got too big an ass". Now I know he didn't mean it as a fat thing, cause I'll be the first to say my ass sticks out a little bit, but it's in proportion with my body. I'm a woman with curves dammit! I think he meant it as a good thing, but for some random 40+ year old guy to say it to a 23 year old girl is just a little much. Men just shouldn't say things like that to women they don't know unless liquor is involved, even then it's a risk.
So coming back from work today when Mike and I passed the police station there was a satellite truck sitting out front. Normally this means a news station is in town which means something good happened. Didn't really think much of it until right after Mike left and I turned on the TV. I'm flipping through the channels and I see the last seconds of one of the newscasters signing off from Rockport. So I get online to see what happened. Turn out a guy right around the corner from me got arrested with a cache of weapon, pills, and a FREAKIN ROCKET LAUNCHER. The thing that gets me it this guy wouldn't have been caught except he had to turn in is guns because his FID card was suspended due to arrest. He turned in ammo that didn't fit some guns he turned in so the police got suspicious and raided his house. Just nuts. Here's the article in the local paper of you want details.
Well that's all for tonight. I'm sure more drama will come up tomorrow!

Knitter or knitter?
December 7, 2009

Well we've hit the downtime between the terms so it's time to finally get some Christmas knitting done. Right now I'm working on the Irish Hiking Scarf (Ravelry link). It's a simple cable and rib scarf, it seems easy but it looks harder than it is. I'm doing the cable without a needle either just to make my life harder.
I recently read one of the Yarn Harlot's books and she talked about Knitters and knitters. To clarify as I interpret it a knitter is someone who knits. They make garter stitch scarves and basic afghans, maybe they purl once in a while but no real shaping or seaming. Knitters do it all, Knitter diving the pattern and hope for the best on the other side. Knitters have a project on them at all time, including walking through a museum (yes, I mean you GazboGal). I've realized I want to be a Knitter. I want to do cables without a needle and 2 at a time socks and things that make knitters stop in awe. I want to create things I'm proud of, that other people will be jealous of. I guess I'm already getting there but I don't know if I'll ever really be happy with who I am as a Knitter.

Check In
November 16, 2009

Well it's been forever since I updated this thing, I know bad Vertigo. I got a new puppy, his name's Pee-Wee and he's a handful. At the moment he's on his back hitting Mittens' jingles. I've been really busy with the HPKCHC and have managed to get a lot of knitting done. I finally got my OWL finished for the cup, 10 mini stockings for a woman on the knittinghelp.com forum. On a side note Mike and I met up with some of the girls from the Cup at the museum of science a few weeks ago and it was a blast. They don't let you take pictures in the exhibit, but I have some from inside the museum outside the exhibit. Click any of these pictures to see it bigger.

First is me with a Wizards' Chess piece at the entrance to the Museum.

Here's all the house banners along the hallway going to the exhibit.
